the fonthouse

the fonthouse is an independent artisan business combining technology with craft techniques, producing in-house 'standard' ranges and bespoke projects for both domestic and commerial sectors.  We are also exporters, with 16% of our output (by value) going to the EU, USA & Americas, Canada, Australia/NZ and Asia.

Our ranges of numerals and lettering use well-regarded typefaces, noted for their clarity and design strength, while various spin-off projects display innovative use of form and proportion.

the people

We are industrial designers with 20 years of commerical experience in the design and manufacture of furniture and household accessories.  We have supplied some of the top UK retailers, i.e. Heal's, Liberty, House of Fraser and a host of independent shops and galleries on the Crafts Council map in addition to direct commissions from interior designers.

Scope

We have a strong design sensibility, at conceptual and practical levels, underpinned by technical 'know-how'.  This enables customers to request development of our standard products into successful, attractive 'extensions'.

Having test-traded with just one pair of Gill Sans numerals on Ebay, we now stock an extensive range of standard products, available 'off-the-shelf'.  Furthermore, we produce bespoke lettering/numeral combinations in various sizes and materials, including plaques and signage.

Quality

Based in Sheffield, England, we have a wealth of expertise around us, not to mention over 100 years of history; stainless steel was invented just a mile from our trading premises...  Unsurprisingly, metal processing industries are still key to our local manufacturing economy and in addition to our own tooling facilities, we have long-established partnerships with metal-polishers, blast-finishers, welders and turners.
